Fit for Tennis – Fit for Life!©
By LaRue E. Cook, BS, MHA, JD, CPT
Tennis strength isn’t about moving heavy objects or having huge muscles. Tennis requires the strength that allows your muscles to absorb the impact of hitting the ball, and being strong enough to generate power - a combination of strength and speed. Strength and power in tennis means generating racquet head speed, or making quick sprints to the ball.
Tennis players can develop good upper and lower body strength through regular resistance or strength training. Below, are three of my favorite exercises. Try these to help improve your strength for tennis.
Photo 1: Front Shoulder Raise
Use a weight that you can perform 12-15 repetitions with. Lift arms no higher than shoulder level.

Photo 2: Lunge with Rotation/MB
A good exercise for your legs, and your core muscles. Use a weighted medicine ball and rotate your torso, first to the right, next to the left – this is one repetition. Perform 12 repetitions on each leg.

Live Wimbledon Web Casts Coming To The Net
By Richard Pagliaro
Seven-time Wimbledon winner Pete Sampras called Centre Court at Wimbledon a "tennis cathedral" and now the most traditional tournament in tennis is partnering with Mediazone.com to create a welcome web site sanctuary for Wimbledon worshippers. For the first time in history, tennis fans will be able to watch Wimbledon matches via live streaming video and on-demand over the Internet through a link on the official Wimbledon web site.
For a full-tournament ticket fee that is expected to cost between $20-$25, tennis fans can watch live match coverage via the web from Centre Court, Court One and up to seven other courts throughout the Wimbledon fortnight. That all-access pass is expected to go on sale on or about June 14, though you can visit Wimbledon Live now and enter your email address to receive instant updates on the service.
In addition to live match coverage, Wimbledon Live will feature "On Demand video of recent and classic matches as well as match highlights, player interviews and news updates."
It is potentially the most exciting tennis technological innovation since the introduction of the Hawk-Eye replay system earlier this year — offering web casts using international television feeds that can take tennis fans so close to the courts at Wimbledon you can hear the subtle squeak of the strings tighten with tension as players' fingertips tickle the strings of their racquet faces.

Do It Tennis Play Test: Wilson nSix-Two Oversize (113)
Tested By: Hans Paino
Wilson has brought back one of their best-selling racquets: The “Skunk”. The black and white 6.2 of old has come back as the nSix-Two. The nCode version does not feature Hammer (head heavy) technology like the old versions did, and with a headlight balance this racquet is all about versatility and all-court performance. The new nSix-Two features Double Hole Technology and Iso-Zorb grommets, which further enhance its already great feel.
The nSix-Two comes in two head sizes. The Oversize version has a 113 sq. inch head size while the Mid Plus has a 100 sq. inch head size. I play tested the Oversize version because the staff at Do It Tennis feels strongly that most intermediate players should be using an oversize racquet. Oversized racquets offer a bigger sweetspot for better shot making and more power for easier playability.
First Impressions
I tested the nSix-Two Oversize (113) over a 3-week period in which I played about 25 total hours with the racquet. I have played with the old Wilson Hammer 6.2 a few years ago. When I first got hold of the nSix-Two Oversize, I was impressed by the way it felt in my hand and the sharp black and white look. The graphics showed me that Wilson had really spent some time in trying to make sure the product looked like a winner as well as played like one. (Wilson sometimes forgets to do this. See: Wilson Pro Staff Torch). Also, the racquet felt good in my hand before I even hit one ball. The balance is 1 point Head Light, which makes it pretty much evenly balanced. I like racquets that are not head heavy or head light so this racquet fit me nicely.
