Aerogel Technology: Aerogel is the world’s lightest solid and has a strength of up to 4,000 its own weight. The three-dimensional nanometer-sized molecular network delivers an unmatched strength to weight ratio for enhanced stiffness and increased power. Combined with M-Fil (multi-filament) technology across the hitting zone to ‘soften’ ball impact, Aerogel frames deliver the perfect balance between power and control.
M-Fil (Multi Filiament) Technology: Carbon, S-Fibre and Magnesium are combined into the hitting zone of the racquet head to enhance the touch and feel of the racquet where and when you need it most = at the moment of ball contact.

The 300 Aerogel exhibits nice balance, good weight and an ample sweet spot with little vibration. With the right string, this racquet can provide you with excellent power, control and spin. I highly recommend this racquet.

The Dunlop Aerogel 3 Hundred is more or less the flagship model of Dunlop’s present line. Especially since the newly re-acquired James Blake is playing with his old Dunlop model, in accordance with the ‘I’ll be loyal to my school’ thought process. This particular model is being used by Tommy Haas and Tommy Robredo among others. Both of those players are elegant stylists and unbelievably clean strikers of the ball. That is both the good news and bad news with this frame.
The frame is 98 square inches with regard to head size, and the standard 27th inches in length. The swing weight is reported to be 316 and that number seems spot on. The beam however is 21.5mm, and ultimately, for some players, that may be an issue with this frame.
For lack of a better term the frame feels a little blocky. I liked the way that the ball came off the strings, and while using a vibration dampener there was a nice clean pop sound on contact. There are nice balanced levels of power and control; one is not sacrificed for the other. But you have to have long swings to manage this frame. I think that the added beam width, on what is otherwise a total ‘player’s’ frame is problematic. Even on volleys Haas and Robredo (a clay court volleyer if there ever was one) have long swings and that is the only way to generate power with this frame.
THIS RACQUET IS SUITABLE FOR...
Ideally suited for players with aggressive, long strokes. Recommended for the 4.5-6.0 NTRP level players.
FIRST IMPRESSION
The Aerogel 3Hundred is a good looking piece of technology. The cosmetics show where the ‘aerogel’ material has been added at the upper and bottom edges of the frame. There are also inserts at 900 and 300 o’clock indicating where balance material has been added ala the old Original Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 85.
STRING / TENSION
The frame I hit with for 10+ hours, was set up with Dunlop M-Fil Tour String strung midrange.
MY PLAYING STYLE
I play an attacking style; mainly serving and volleying, when receiving trying to position myself with my forehand for forays to the net.
GROUND STROKES
I liked the feel of both my forehand and backhand with this frame. There is only one warning label that needs to be applied. Full swings are rewarded. The ball for sure tumbles off the string bed; andor falls short with short swings or overly wristy or flippy ball striking action. As I hit with this frame I had to focus on taker longer than usual swings (for me). I could see easily that if that was my normal and usual style of play, this frame would be a good one.
VOLLEYS
The Aerogel 3Hundred frame was fine on balls center in the middle of the string bed, especially volleys that I was either trying to put away, or pound deep and hard as a first volley. It was difficult to under spin my volley with this frame. I think that the width of the beam and the blockiness of the frame both contributed to the feeling of uncertainty on these specific shots.
SERVES
The Aerogel 3Hundred frame delivered nice power and control on both first (flat or slice) and second (slice or spin) deliveries. I did feel as if I had to really go after the ball to hit my hard flat serve, but accuracy did not suffer much, as is sometimes the case when you go for a little extra.
CONCLUSION
It is a little strange, but I like this frame. I wouldn’t choose it for myself, but for a solid 4.5+ player this would be a good choice. I think from a coaching standpoint that this would be a good first competition adult frame for juniors, and also for 4.0 range players working on lengthening their swings to get more power. A player has to really swing this frame to get power, and at the same time the 98 inch head size is a forgiving number. The Aerogel 3Hundred is an interesting offering for Dunlop.
