Product Description

Prince O3 Speedport Silver
Power Level 1600.

The Oł Speedport Silver is up to 24% more aerodynamic through advanced engineering so your racquet is faster and more stable. With a high power level, this racquet is best for players with slow and compact strokes.

By replacing the traditional pin-sized string holes with giant Speedports that provide total string freedom of movement the sweetspot size is increased up to 59%, which means you hit your best shots more often. What's truly impressive is that Prince did it all without enlarging the racquet head, increasing its length, or adding weight. So it's easy to maneuver and quicker through the air.

Ideal for players with short, compact strokes. Recommended for the 2.0+ NTRP level players.

Oł Technology: Prince has once again revolutionized the art of racquet design with the launch of the Oł, a breakthrough in racquet engineering that allows you to hit your best shots more often.

RATING: 4 of 5 Stars! 4 of 5 Stars!

The Prince O3 Speedport Silver is an excellent choice for 2.5-3.5 players who are looking for some power, while they develop their games. Or for senior club players who end up reaching for wider balls and whom may not always hit the ball near the center of the string bed. The frame is forgiving to the nth degree and actually has a good combination of power and soft feel. The frame weighs in at 9.5 ounces in its 118 square inch version. It is 27.5 inches in length and both looks and feels like a lighter version of the classic oversized Prince graphite from years and years ago.

PLAYER TYPE: Ideal for players with short, compact strokes

FIRST IMPRESSION

The Prince O3 Silver is a nice looking frame. It has the short neck of many oversized racquets and after a couple of swings; you realize that the thing will just launch a tennis ball. The ball comes off of the string nicely though, and it was actually fun to hit with playing volley games with kids in my beginners clinic. For a player with not much mass or strength, or a player with short strokes, this racquet is an excellent fit.

STRING / TENSION

The demo that I hit with was strung at 62 pounds with Prince syn gut strings. This tension is mid-range according to the specifications for this frame. I played with this frame for 5 or 6 hours while teaching.

MY PLAYING STYLE

I play an attacking style, mainly serving and volleying. When receiving I try to chip my backhand return or drive the forehand return, in order to position myself for forays to the net.

GROUND STROKES

I was able to generate plenty of power and spin hitting ground strokes with this frame. It was easy to get enough power to hit the ball deep into the court, and also to find the spin angles necessary to control the power. The problem for an advanced player is that the ball rockets out of the sweet spot. You would simply never have a need for that much pure power, and if you are a microsecond early or late there is no chance to control the ball. This frame is designed for 2.5-3.5 players and should not be used by players at a more advanced level, or even by players in that range who have long ground strokes.

VOLLEYS

This frame is fun to volley with if you have very compact volley strokes. The ball jumps out of the sweet spot, and it is relatively easy to slide the ball around the court with short strokes and the use of slice. The sweet spot is very large also, which makes the racquet a perfect match for the 2.5-3.5 range players. It is hard to control hard hit volleys in the middle of the frame however. The ball comes off of the sweet spot almost too quickly.

SERVES

This is the perfect frame for the server with elbow issues who has gone to the short swing. The racquet itself provides a lot of power and there is not much vibration with a short swing. The player with a long complex swing will hate trying to serve with this frame. The sweet spot is too big and there is simply too much power to control. It is fun hitting kick serves with this racquet. And I had the thought hitting with it, that it would be fun to teach 3.5 doubles players to hit a kick serve with this frame. That would certainly be a nasty turn for their opponents.

CONCLUSION

The power rating on this frame is 1600, and that should serve as both information and a warning. This racquet should not be used by developing junior players or anyone beyond the 3.5 level. The frame is too light for anyone who has long strokes and is an invitation to shoulder andor elbow issues if you were to take serious and repeated hard, long cuts at the ball. The sweet spot is way big for the more accomplished player, and there is just too much power. This racquet is perfect for seniors, women 3.5 doubles league players, and players around that level who have very short swings. To be truthful the price point for this frame supports that conclusion also.
