Prince Ozone Seven
$9.99 O3 SPEEDPORT BACKPACK SPECIAL WITH THE PURCHASE OF THIS PRINCE RACQUET!

Prince Power level: 1000

The Prince Ozone 7 is an update to the Prince O3 Red. The Ozone 7 combines Prince's O-port technology with a 105 sq. inch headsize and you have a great racquet for intermediate players that are looking for a well balanced, all-court racquet. Players won’t even notice the quarter inch of extra length thanks to the quick maneuverability provided by the O-Ports, which act as tiny wind tunnels to allow air to pass through the frame for quick acceleration. Prince enhances the sweetspot with Carbon Wave Matrix Construction, in which Prince layers the graphite fibers in a wave pattern. This wave pattern complements the angular orientation of the other graphite layers, offering superior power versus traditional graphite contruction techniques.

Ideal for players with moderate, powerful strokes. Recommended for the 3.5+ NTRP level players.

Oł Technology: Prince has once again revolutionized the art of racquet design with the launch of the Oł, a breakthrough in racquet engineering that allows you to hit your best shots more often.

By replacing the traditional pin-sized string holes with giant Speedports that provide total string freedom of movement the sweetspot size is increased up to 59%, which means you hit your best shots more often. What's truly impressive is that Prince did it all without enlarging the racquet head, increasing its length, or adding weight. So it's easy to maneuver and quicker through the air.

The Prince Ozone Seven tennis racquet is a solid choice for intermediate adults and junior players. At first blush I was unsure how much I liked this frame and I had to play with it for a long time to figure out the reason for my uncertainty. The Prince Ozone Seven is for sure one of those frames that feels a little different every time you play with it at first, and I suspect that if the weather had been warmer (than mid-December in SoCal) and that the balls had been lighter and not so heavy, that the frame would have left a much different impression on me. I have to say that I would not recommend the setup where the String Hole Insert is used. The sweet spot is much reduced, and the racquet plays like any number of midsize-oversized products with an unresponsive tinny feel, and a very pingy sound. There is also a very high vibration level, even on hits just off-center where this would not normally be an issue in a high quality frame.

RACQUET SPECS...

The Prince Ozone Seven racket has a head size of 105 square inches, is 27.25 inches long (although the extra quarter inch hardly seems to be a factor) and weighs 10.6 ounces. It has a Prince Power Level of 1000. I am not wild about 105 inch racquet heads to begin with, and at first I was launching balls all over. But as I played with the frame on other occasions I was able to harness the power and even play with more feel than is usually possible with this head size frame.

FIRST IMPRESSION

The Prince Ozone Seven racquet is a nice looking frame. I have to add that every junior player who hit with this frame was wild about the red standard grip that the frame comes with. The frame seems a little thick and light at first look, but as I hit with the frame on other days it actually has a nice balanced feel to it. Much more so than oversize frames typically have.

STRING / TENSION

The frame that I hit with was a demo, strung mid-range with Prince synthetic gut. I played with this frame for over 20 hours, mostly teaching lessons; also practicing with it for a couple of hours on two occasions.

MY PLAYING STYLE

I play an attacking style; mainly serving and volleying, when receiving trying to position myself with my forehand for forays to the net.

GROUND STROKES

I liked hitting my groundstrokes with this racquet. At first I had major issues with control, but just by cutting my backswing down slightly, I was able to hit the ball clean with both power and spin. This is a nice frame for players just learning to hit with topspin. It is forgiving if you are a little late or off center and the sweet spot is larger than usual, in terms of how far it seems to extend towards the edges of the frame. The only caveat I would offer is that you cannot over hit with this frame. If your game tends towards excess and/or ultra risky/aggressive shot making, I would look at other frames. But you can for sure really from the back with this frame if you have nice control and spin built into your game.

VOLLEYS

This frame is much more user friendly for good net players than many (if not all) oversize frames that I have hit with. It is easy to move this frame and the large rectangular sweet spot makes stretch and dink volleys a lot of fun. I did have a little trouble hitting the high drive volley on the forehand side with this frame. The ball just seemed to fly out of there. But there were no problems on volleys designed more with spin and placement in mind than purely relying on pace.

SERVES

The frame had nice power, spin and feel on both the first and second offerings. The racquet was a little dicey on the flat serve, but both kick and slice serves were easily managed.

CONCLUSION

I think that the Prince Ozone Seven Tennis Racquet is an excellent frame for players who need a little free power, or players who need a larger sweet spot to make up for footwork and/or reach issues. The racquet is a little too light for my game and body size, but I would totally recommend this frame for juniors just going to adult racquets, and players in the 3.5-4.5 range looking for a frame to boost their games slightly. For sure this is one of the better midplus racquets in the market place at this time.

Overview--On a scale of (worse)1-10(best): Ground strokes: 9 Volleys: 4 Serves: 7 The Prince Ozone 7 MP is a good racquet for ground strokes (which is what I wanted it for). I found it to have a very good feel, swing balance, and 'pop'. I should mention that I got the best results, by far, when I restrung it at Max tension (63lbs.). I found the light weight and additional stiffness (1000 on Prince scale) to be pretty unruly on volleys but I am working with it and it's not enough to make me want to stop using the racquet. As a side note, I have played exclusively with the original Volkl Tour 8 MP up till now and it is heavier, less stiff and volleys like dream (for me at least) compared to the Ozone 7. For serves, the Ozone 7's light weight and additional stiffness were a plus for me. This was particularly evident on spin serves; I felt like i could really 'whip' the racquet and generate a lot of side and top spin. It still has enough weight that I didn't feel like I had to do all the work on flat serves. If your game is base-line oriented and you have a long, loopy swing - I highly recommend this stick. If your more serve & volley - Demo it first. Background: NTRP 4.5+ player, college coach.
