3 Ways Yoga Can Improve Your Tennis Game

3 Ways Yoga Can Improve Your Tennis Game

Tennis is an amazing workout; not only the physical aspect, but the mental one. It combines aerobic exercise with hand eye coordination. Tennis players need to be able to move fast, think fast and act fast. But as a tennis player, have you ever thought of slowing it down? Take yoga, for instance. Yoga goes at a much slower pace, but the benefits of yoga can easily translate over to improving your tennis game.

What is it about Wimbledon and Weddings?

Is the grass? This year following and even during the 2016 Wimbledon tennis championships three top tennis professional Dominka Civuklkova, Ana Ivanovic, and even youngster and Ranch Santa Fe, CA resident Taylor Fritz made their intentions clear and either wed or got engaged. Do two weeks among the stuffy traditionalists at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club influence the couples to make it legal? Or could it be the mandatory whites that inspire the potential brides and their beaus to take the plunge?

The Bryan Brothers: Grandmasters of Tennis Doubles

It’s tough to come up with enough superlatives to describe the talents and accomplishments of Bob and Mike Bryan, the grandmasters of tennis doubles. The Bryan Brothers combined to win a record 16 Grand Slam men’s tennis doubles championships and record 112 professional doubles tournaments overall. The most weeks ranked #1 (440 plus for both men), most Davis Cup doubles wins (23), most consecutive Grand Slam Finals (7), most prize money, an Olympic Gold Medal, and on and on and on. They even have several mixed doubles Grand Slam championships playing the best women players. Mike and Bob Bryan have single-handily (or is it double-handily?) transformed and raised the profile of professional tennis doubles.

The Controversial History of Wimbledon White

One of charming and for pro tennis players sometimes infuriating aspects of the Wimbledon tennis tournament is the very British requirements for Wimbledon white apparel. The origin of the whites apparently goes back to the late 1800s, when it was improper to have ladies perspire or show sweat stains. To mask that apparent outrage they started wearing all white. And it was in cotton flannel. Good thing England is cool and rainy-even sometime during the famous fortnight. The male tennis players soon followed suit. The tradition became rooted the manicured lawns of the All England Croquet & Lawn Tennis Club.

Wimbledon 2016 is the most famous tennis championship around, but many of us never have a chance to play tennis on a grass surface. If you ever are scheduled to play on a grass tennis court there are some tennis training tips for your tennis practice sessions. These tennis drills for grass court play courtesy of Micah Groom, Co-director of Player Development for the North County Tennis Academy in San Diego County in California and a USPTR certified professional.

There are many perks to stretching. An important and obvious one is increased flexibility, which can improve your performance. A second important, maybe less obvious, benefit is it can also help cut back on muscle soreness/tightness which allows you to focus on your match and not how sore you feel from the day before.

OUCH! Isn’t Tennis Elbow Enough?

When you think of sports that require a lot of jumping, I’ll bet the last sport that crosses your mind is tennis; volleyball and basketball, yes, but tennis, unlikely. Missing golden career opportunity, after opportunity, from the London Olympics and Wimbledon in 2009, to this year’s US Open in New York, this young athlete still holds an impressive 11 Grand Slam titles.

Makin’ a Racket About My Tennis Racquet

When I was a novice player taking lessons in college, my first racquet was actually a gift. Let me rephrase that; it was more of a hand-me-down. But hey, I thought it was so cool, my first tennis racquet. That was in 1998 and they have come a long way, even since then. I still have that ol’ thing and have used it as a benchmark when reviewing or shopping for others up until the latest and greatest left my little guy in the dust.

A New Tennis Legend in the Making?

A New Tennis Legend in the Making?

Many would say that Rafael Nadal is headed for super stardom. Some would say he is already there.  But, the one thing every tennis fan can agree on is that Nadal is going to be a legend of the court.  His career has been short, only beginning in 2002 at the tender age of 15. In April of that year he played his first career ATP match and won, defeating Ramon Delgado.  He was only the 9th player in what is considered the Open Era to do this before the age of 16....

Less Talk is More Before Your Kids Tennis Match

Less Talk is More Before Your Kids Tennis Match

As a young junior player I was always nervous when it was competition time. My friends would add some extra pressure saying thinks like: "I know this guy; you should beat him in less than 20 minutes!", "Oh, you'll have an easy match!", "You beat him all the time in practice; it should be easy this time too!" or "This guy is number one seed; good luck!" etc. Whether you are a tennis player or a tennis parent who doesn't know what to tell his/her kid before a match, here is my personal suggestion...

User Friendly Tennis Tool Helps Master the Serve

User Friendly Tennis Tool Helps Master the Serve

For tennis players who aspire to perform and serve at the optimum level, the Total Serve is designed for you. Based on knowledge of physical movements and different sporting activities, owner and inventor Lisa Dodson has created a tool that educates players what the accurate tennis serve and throwing motion “feel like.” Lisa has enjoyed an illustrious career in tennis. For more then 30 years, she has played tennis professionally, coached, managed tennis clubs and acted as the USTA professional tournament director. She has coached tennis players as young as 5 and as old as 85! But for many years, she used a tube sock with 3 tennis balls in it to help players understand what the proper serve should feel like. The sock, however, did not have a solid grip. Lisa says, “I found so much success with my clients with this simple tool that I decided to make...

Consider the facts when looking for the best tennis racquet for your game

Consider the facts when looking for the best tennis racquet for your game

If you are a beginner player, you generally need a lighter, bigger headed racquet like a Prince Exo3 Silver. However, if you are a 4.5 - 5.0 player, you might want something that is a smaller headsize, weighs more and offers more control than power. This being said, there are a couple of racquets that have been best sellers. The reason these racquets ...

Watch out for those tennis nets

Congratulations to Prince for Making Racquets Hard-Core Players Can Enjoy

In the last couple of years, Prince has brought out some really good player racquets....and some really bad player racquets. I have used Prince tennis racquets since I was a little kid.  Until about 2 years ago, I was still using a Prince racquet, but I unfortunately had to make a switch because the racquets that came out were not to my liking.  I was using the o3 Hybrid Hornet Midplus and tried to switch to the Prince EXO3 black or the EXO3 white but neither one worked for me...

The Re-designed Head YouTek Racquet

After HEAD signed Novak Djokovic away from Wilson in 2009, they came out with the HEAD Youtek Speed series tennis racquets (Youtek Speed MP 18x20 and 16x19, Elite and Pro).
