Younger players are starting to rise to the top. His recent win against the current world number two and defending French Open champion, Novak Djokovic has us believing he is a player to watch in the French Open.

Alexander Zverev, also known as Sascha, is coming off the high of beating Djokovic in the Rome Master’s 1000 tournament and now he is setting his sights on the French Open. Despite the help of Andre Agassi, Djokovic succumbed to the 20 year old’s playing last week. You may be thinking where did this guy come from? Well, here’s some important things to know about Alexander Zverev. After having turned pro in 2013 Zverev has since jumped from 839 in the rankings all the way down to 10 by 2017!He is the youngest player in the ATP top 10 (currently)! In 2015 he broke 100 on the ATP rankings and in 2016 he made it in the top 20!His biggest title so far is the Masters 1000 Rome title but he is certainly hoping to update it to the French Open. Before that, he won the jr Austrailian Open in 2014. He fairs pretty well on the clay courts with a win-loss record of 16-3. Playing since he was 5 he trains in both Germany and Florida and comes from a tennis playing family, his brother Mischa Zverev is ranked 33 in the ATP rankings.

Alexander’s game is strong at the baseline and he has a strong first serve and second serve. Also, watch for his two-handed backhand the next time he plays; it’s not too shabby either.  All in all he has a pretty fair chance of being a contender at the French Open because of his recent defeat of Novak Djokovic who won the French Open last year. With the way things have been looking lately, there is going to be a lot of fresh faces at the French Open this year.

Who do you think has a fair shot this year?
