Hard work, dedication, practice, sweat, skill, focus, endurance, excitement, victory, loss, tennis. There are probably hundreds of other words to describe this amazing sport. It dates back hundreds of years and has been a celebrated sporting event and tradition just as long. Played for both recreation and competition, tennis forms a life-long bond in the hearts of those who share its passion. This passion is brought to life at the Australian Open Tennis, the first of four yearly events in the Grand Slam which will kick off in January of 2013. This week-long event encompasses some of the most skilled tennis professionals there are and those who wish to celebrate the sport with them would be erroneous to miss this Open.

Makin’ a Racket About My Tennis Racquet

When I was a novice player taking lessons in college, my first racquet was actually a gift. Let me rephrase that; it was more of a hand-me-down. But hey, I thought it was so cool, my first tennis racquet. That was in 1998 and they have come a long way, even since then. Many would say that Rafael Nadal is headed for super stardom.Some would say he is already there.  But, the one thing every tennis fan can agree on is that Nadal is going to be a legend of the court.  His career has been short, only beginning in 2002 at the tender age of 15. In April of that year he played his first career ATP match and won, defeating Ramon Delgado.  He was only the 9th player in what is considered the Open Era to do this before the age of 16….

As a young junior player I was always nervous when it was competition time.
