Tennis shoes were a little different when I was playing in the juniors

Junior's tennis shoes

About 20 years ago when I was playing junior tournaments, tennis shoes were much different than they are these days.

Since tennis has evolved into more of a power game compared to when it was in the 80's and 90's, shoes have evolved. Back in those days, it was more important to have a junior's tennis shoe that was more durable than light weight. Since you were not moving as fast around the court (compared to today), you wanted something on your feet that was both comfortable and durable.

These days the words you hear about shoes is lightweight, low to the ground, good lateral stability and maybe some durability. If you take a look at the more popular tennis shoes on the market today: all Nike shoes, K-Swiss Bigshot, Prince T22 and Adidas Barricade 6. They all fit this description of high performance in a fast game.
